Aarti Chhabria wins 'Fear Factor - Khatron Ke Khiladi'

Model-turned actress Aarti Chhabria has won the fourth season of 'Fear Factor-Khatron Ke Khiladi' after weeks of gruelling tasks involving underwater stunts, fighting off creepy crawlies and jumping off dangerous heights.

Aarti and her partner Dhaval Thakur succeeded over singer Mauli Dave and Dhiraj, after facing two risky stunts on the grand finale, aired on Colors Saturday (July 23). Model Diandra Soares and her partner Arhan were the other finalists, but lost the first stunt.
Aarti made her debut in Bollywood with 'Tumse Achcha Kaun Hai' (2002) and later featured in films like 'Awara Paagal Deewana' and 'Shootout At Lokhandwala' amongst others.
The 28-year-old not only walked away with the title of being the 'Khiladi', but has also been chosen as the 'Thums Up Thunder Star', where she will get an opportunity to feature with Akshay in the new campaign. Her partner Dhaval won a Scorpio car.
The finale involved a stunt where the male contestant had to drive the car and the female contestant was controlling the vehicle's momentum.
In the second stunt, the female contestant was tied up in a bus which was set on fire and the male contestant had to unlock her and set her free. He also had to reach for the 'Thums Up' bottle which was tied up at three feet above the ground and whichever team did it fast, won the show.

The show, hosted by Akshay Kumar and shot in South Africa, started with 13 female celebrities. Models like Diandra, Alesia Raut and Poonam Pandey, actresses Aarti, Smita Bansal and Aashka Goradia, item girls Sambhavna Seth and Kashmera Shah, two VJs - Bani and Mia Uyeda, singer Mauli Dave and Dina Singh who is actor Vindu Dara Singh's wife and Anjum Chopra, the former captain of the Indian women's cricket team, were a part of this season.

'Khatron Ke Khiladi' is the Indian version of 'Fear Factor', where contestants undergo daredevil stunts to get over their fears and win the show.

'James Bond' interested in Bollywood

Hollywood actor Daniel Craig, the latest James Bond, has been in the news for not only for secretly marrying actress Rachel Weisz but also for his new cowboy film Cowboys And Aliens by Jon Favreau. He may not have good knowledge of Bollywood but he is keen to act in an Indian film if he gets chance.

In an interview to Mid Day, Daniel Craig said that India is a huge market for Hollywood films and that his earlier Bond films did exceptionally well in the country. On asked if he is willing to an Indian film, he replied in an affirmative, saying “nothing has come my way yet, but if things work out then why not.”

Craig is all praise for Indian women, saying that they are beautiful and will surely make wonderful Bond girls. He added that he is thrilled, as a few scenes of his next Bond film will be shot in India.

Well, let’s hope James Bond treat his Indian fans by not only doing an Indian film but also casting an Indian girl in a Bond film in the near future!

Katrina Kaif turns designer

If there was any disappointment in not being able to work with Ranbir Kapoor in Ayan Mukerjee's film, Katrina sure knows how to get over it and how. The actress will not only be sharing screen space with Shah Rukh in Yash Chopra's next, but will start designing her own clothes too!

Yes, Katrina Kaif will soon be seen designing her own clothes for her upcoming films. She's already half-way there having gone clothes and accessories shopping with designer Rocky S for her rock-chick look in Yashraj's Mere Brother Ki Dulhan.

Inspired by the immense response she received for her bohemian rock-star look, the actress approached Yash and Aditya Chopra about designing her own clothes in Yash Chopra's next directorial venture.

Hence, Katrina is all set to become Bollywood's first actress cum fashion designer.

Katrina says, "I was always interested in fabric, clothes and designing. Maybe I would have been a designer by profession, if I didn't start acting. For the rock-chick look in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, is not the first time I went shopping for my own clothes and accessories.

I dress minimal and unfussy. So deciding my own clothes for my characters is not a big deal."

For Yash Chopra's film, Katrina will dress herself far more elegantly and sensuously, her looks in recent films like Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara and the forthcoming Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. Katrina will dress up in true Yashraj style, meaning very elegant, sophisticated and graceful. The thought of dressing herself in desi clothes has Katrina extremely excited.

Use of Internet affecting memory

Researchers have found that the widespread use of search engines and online databases is affecting the way people remember information. To know whether people were more likely to remember information that could be easily retrieved from a computer, Betsy Sparrow, an assistant professor of psychology at Columbia and her collaborators, Daniel M. Wegner of Harvard and Jenny Liu of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, staged different memory experiments, reports the New York Times.

In one experiment where participants typed 40 bits of trivia, the team found that the subjects were significantly more likely to remember information if they thought they would not be able to find it later.

“Participants did not make the effort to remember when they thought they could later look up the trivia statement they had read,” wrote the authors.

A second experiment was aimed at determining whether computer accessibility affects precisely what we remember.

“If asked the question whether there are any countries with only one colour in their flag, for example,” the researchers wrote, “do we think about flags — or immediately think to go online to find out?”

In this case, participants were asked to remember both the trivia statement itself and which of five computer folders it was saved in. The researchers were surprised to find that people seemed better able to recall the folder.

“That kind of blew my mind,” Dr. Sparrow said.

The experiment explores an aspect of what is known as transactive memory — the notion that we rely on our family, friends and co-workers as well as reference material to store information for us.

The Internet’s effects on memory are still largely unexplored, Dr. Sparrow said, adding that her experiments had led her to conclude that the Internet has become our primary external storage system.

“Human memory,” she said, “is adapting to new communications technology.”

25-year old dies using Chinese phone

If you happen to be a Chinese phone user, here's a shocking piece of news for you. In one of the most bizarre events, a 25-year old man from the Panchmahal district of Gujarat died after being electrocuted by his China-made phone.

The incident occurred when 25-year-old Dhanji Damor was trying to make a call while his phone was plugged in for charging. The victim was pronounced dead by doctors due to electrocution.

Already, the low-cost unbranded China-made handsets have seen the Indian government cracking down upon them for failing to comply on the security standards. Last year, the government was mulling to adopt various steps, including strict surveillance of grey market deals and restriction on import of devices without proper code.

Actors and cricketers abandon stolen cars

A British businessman and a North Korean diplomat are facing charges of running a multi-million pound racket of stolen super luxury cars.

The duo were evading hefty import duties by claiming the cars were for diplomatic use, while in actuality they sold it to rich and famous at half the original prices, London's The Telegraph Group reported.

The smuggling operation came to fore following a tax investigation that forced the nervous buyers, including Bollywood superstars and cricket players scrambling to abandon the vehicles and avoid arrest.

Among the 40 cars that are currently impounded are models like Porsche Panameras, sold in India for £250,000 (Dh1.5 million), a Bentley Continental Supersport, costing £350,000, several Aston Martin Rapides, with a price tag of £290,000, and a Maserati costing £170,000.

According to officials from India's Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, the scheme to cheat its tax authority out of millions of pounds centres on a British-Indian car dealer in Britain who arranged shipments to India where demand for luxurious cars is insatiable.

Detectives hope to take their investigation to London where a number of Britons are suspected of involvement. They are also preparing to approach North Korea and Vietnam to uncover more information about the roles played by their diplomats in New Delhi. Investigators believe they were lured into the scheme by dealers to exploit diplomatic tax concessions. Duties on imported luxury cars are 100 per cent of their import value.

Aarti Chhabria is KKK4 winner?

A reality show where you know the winner before the celeb host says, ‘Namaste’. Weird? Just plain true in the era of camera phones and instant messaging. While the last few days have seen sporadic news about actress Arti Chhabria being the possible winner of Khatron ke Khiladi Season 4 hosted by actor Akshay Kumar (they called it Torchaar, and shot it in South Africa), here’s solid visual proof. These wrap-up party pictures leaked from Facebook yesterday show a cake that congratulates Chhabria on her win.

Doctors save baby by 'freezing' in a fridge

Newly born baby didn't breathe for 17 minutes.
A baby who didn't breathe for 17 minutes was saved after being put in a 'fridge' for three days, reported The Daily Mail.

When she was born, Sophie Fleet swallowed fluids which caused a blockage in her airways and starved her brain of oxygen.

Doctors treated her using medically-induced hypothermia, lowering her body temperature from the normal 37°C to 33.5°C for three days by putting Sophie into a special 'fridge' suit pumped with water to keep her body cool, reported The Daily Mail.

This reduced pressure on Sophie's brain, thereby preventing further brain damage. She could go home with her parents nine days later, and only sustained mild brain damage.

Sophie's parents know that the outcome could have been much worse – their daughter could have suffered either severe or brain damage – without the hypothermia, reported The Daily Mail.

Dia Mirza shares her secrets

She's recently become the first Indian brand ambassador of The Body Shop. The company launched its fairness products and ventured in the fairness market, and had the actress mark her presence at the launch.

At the occasion, as the discussion was about the right makeup and skin care of women, the actress said, "I wish all women take care of their skin, especially in this weather.

Often I hear that young girls sleep with kajal on their eyes and mascara on their lashes. They should refrain from this. In fact, I believe girls should not wear makeup until they are at least 17 or 18 years old. This reminds me that I was not allowed a facial when I was that age. My mom wouldn't even allow me to wear makeup until I started working. But today, I see very young girls flaunting a lot of makeup.

All I'd like to tell them is that they should cleanse their faces before sleeping, hydrate their skin by having enough water... aur bas apna dimag thanda rakhe... You know, one should stay calm and be peaceful. One gets a beautiful face only with beautiful thoughts." Point noted, pretty gal.

Lindsay to dodge jail, serve time at home

Lindsay Lohan is poised to avoid jail entirely, despite her 120-day sentence ...

We broke the story ... Lindsay will plead no contest to misdemeanor theft, and it's likely the judge will not increase the 120 day sentence -- in other words, once she serves the 120 days, she's home free.
Lindsay Lohan
Now here's the twist.  TMZ has checked with the L.A. County Sheriff's Department -- which runs the jail where Lindsay must serve her sentence.  We're told for non-violent, misdemeanor offenses, the Sheriff's Department routinely allows inmates to serve their time at home, provided they wear an electronic monitoring device.

We're also told the L.A. County Probation Dept. is down with non-violent, misdemeanor offenders serving time at home.

Judge Stephanie Sautner has made it clear -- Lindsay will be treated just like any other defendant, and people in Lindsay's shoes simply don't get put behind bars.

Ironic, isn't it.  She's accused of stealing a necklace, and a bracelet will set her free.

Abhishek acts funny with wife Aishwarya Rai

Abhishek Bachchan acts funny with wife Aishwarya Rai.
You could say Abhishek Bachchan is acting funny with wife Aishwarya - that`s because the couple are starring in their first comedy together called ‘Ladies And Gentlemen’.

Aishwarya Rai
"I was very keen to do a comedy after a spate of more serious films and also Aishwarya and I haven`t done a comedy together, so I`m excited about this film," Abhishek told reporters in an e-mail interview from Murmansk, Russia.

To be produced and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film is slated for a 2012 release and is set to go on the floors in the first week of July this year.

"It`s a great script, very funny and Raj-ji is directing it. We`ve been very keen to work together for a long time. I`m very happy that we will be finally working together," he said.

In the film, Abhishek plays a guy with an insatiable roving eye and Aishwarya sportingly allows her husband to do so.

When asked to give more details, the 35-year-old said: "It wouldn`t be correct to speak about the film at this juncture."

In the last two years, he has only worked in serious movies like ‘Paa’, ‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey’ and ‘Dum Maaro Dum’.

Abhishek and Aishwarya, who tied the knot in 2007, teamed up for the first time on screen for the 2001 movie ‘Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke’. Three years later Rohan Sippy roped them in for his directorial debut ‘Kuch Naa Kaho’ and then JP Dutta made ‘Umrao Jaan’ (2006) with the two -- all these films didn`t do well.

Their first big hit as a couple was Mani Ratnam`s ‘Guru’ (2007), followed by Ram Gopal Varma`s ‘Sarkar Raj’.

In Sanjay Gadhvi`s hit action thriller ‘Dhoom 2’, they shared the screen, but not as a couple. Aishwarya also made a special appearance in the hit song ‘Kajrare’ in the Abhishek starrer ‘Bunty Aur Babli’.

They were last seen on screen in ‘Raavan’, which was declared a dud.

Abhishek, whose ‘Game’ bombed at the Box Office, is elated with the positive response to ‘Dum Maaro Dum’.

"I haven`t had the time to sit down and reflect on the film. But I think youth have really connected with it. I always said Rohan has always made very cool films. The script by Shridhar and an all-round great team performance I think has worked for the film," he added.

Dum Maaro Dum’ also starred Bipasha Basu, Prateik Babbar and Rana Daggubati among others.

Abhishek, who is currently shooting in Russia for Abbas-Mustan`s "Players", which again has Bipasha, also came clean on allegations that he was not happy with the climax of ‘Dum Maaro Dum’ and wanted to get it changed.

"Nothing like that. Rohan has always been kind enough to involve me in the entire creative process of his films. I had suggestions. Some he used and some he didn`t. It`s all part of the process of making a film," he said.a

Osama bin Laden is dead, Obama confirms

Osama bin Laden dead and buried at sea, Obama says justice is done

Osama bin Laden, the face of global terrorism and architect of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, was killed in a firefight with elite American forces on Monday, then quickly buried at sea in a stunning finale to a furtive decade on the run.
Osama bin Laden dead
Long believed to be hiding in caves, bin Laden was tracked down in a costly, custom-built hideout not far from a Pakistani military academy.

``Justice has been done,'' US President Barack Obama said in a dramatic announcement at the White House while a crowd cheered outside and hundreds more gathered at ground zero in Manhattan to celebrate the news.

The military operation took mere minutes.

US helicopters ferrying elite counter-terrorism troops into the compound identified by the CIA as bin Laden's hideout _ and back out again in less than 40 minutes. Bin Laden was shot in the head, officials said, after he and his bodyguards resisted the assault.

Three adult males were also killed in the raid, including one of bin Laden's sons, whom officials did not name. One of bin Laden's sons, Hamza, is a senior member of al-Qaida.

US officials also said one woman was killed when she was used as a shield by a male combatant, and two other women were injured.

The U.S. official who disclosed the burial at sea said it would have been difficult to find a country willing to accept the remains. Obama said the remains had been handled in accordance with Islamic custom, which requires speedy burial.

``I heard a thundering sound, followed by heavy firing. Then firing suddenly stopped. Then more thundering, then a big blast,'' said Mohammad Haroon Rasheed, a resident of Abbottobad, Pakistan, after the choppers had swooped in and then out again.

The 54-year-old bin Laden's death marks a psychological triumph in a long struggle that began with the Sept. 11 attacks, and seems certain to give Obama a political lift. But its ultimate impact on al-Qaida is less clear.

The greatest terrorist threat to the U.S. is now considered to be the al-Qaida franchise in Yemen, far from al-Qaida's core in Pakistan. The Yemen branch almost took down a US-bound airliner on Christmas 2009 and nearly detonated explosives aboard two U.S. cargo planes last fall. Those operations were carried out without any direct involvement from bin Laden.

The few fiery minutes in Abbottobad followed years in which US officials struggled to piece together clues that ultimately led to bin Laden, according to an account provided by senior administration officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the operation.

Based on statements given by US detainees since the Sept. 11 attacks, they said, intelligence officials have long known that bin Laden trusted one al-Qaida courier in particular, and they believed he might be living with him in hiding.

Four years ago, the United States learned the man's identity, which officials did not disclose, and then about two years later, they identified areas of Pakistan where he operated. Last August, the man's residence was found, officials said.

``Intelligence analysis concluded that this compound was custom built in 2005 to hide someone of significance,'' with walls as high as 18 feet (5 1/2 meters) and topped by barbed wire, according to one official. Despite the compound's estimated $1 million cost and two security gates, it had no phone or Internet running into the house.

By mid-February, intelligence from multiple sources was clear enough that Obama wanted to ``pursue an aggressive course of action,'' a senior administration official said. Over the next two and a half months, the president led five meetings of the National Security Council focused solely on whether bin Laden was in that compound and, if so, how to get him, the official said.

Obama made a decision to launch the operation on Friday, shortly before flying to Alabama to inspect tornado damage, and aides set to work on the details.

The president spent part of his Sunday on the golf course, but cut his round short to return to the White House for a meeting where he and top national security aides reviewed final preparations for the raid.

Two hours later, Obama was told that bin Laden had been tentatively identified.

CIA director Leon Panetta was directly in charge of the military team during the operation, according to one official, and when he and his aides received word at agency headquarters that bin Laden had been killed, cheers broke out around the conference room table.

Administration aides said the operation was so secretive that no foreign officials were informed in advance, and only a small circle inside the US government was aware of what was unfolding half a world away.

In his announcement, Obama said he had called Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari after the raid, and said it was ``important to note that our counter-terrorism cooperation with Pakistan helped lead us to bin Laden and the compound where he was hiding.''

One senior administration told reporters, though, ``we were very concerned ... that he was inside Pakistan, but this is something we're going to continue to work with the Pakistani government on.''

The compound is about a half-mile from a Pakistani military academy, in a city that is home to three army regiments and thousands of military personnel. Abbottabad is surrounded by hills and with mountains in the distance.

Critics have long accused elements of Pakistan's security establishment of protecting bin Laden, though Islamabad has always denied it, and in a statement the foreign ministry said his death showed the country's resolve in the battle against terrorism.

Whatever the global repercussions, bin Laden's death marked the end to a manhunt that consumed most of a decade that began in the grim hours after bin Laden's hijackers flew planes into the World Trade Center twin towers in Manhattan and the Pentagon across the Potomac River from Washington. A fourth plane was commandeered by passengers who overcame the hijackers and forced the plane to crash in the Pennsylvania countryside.

In all, nearly 3,000 were killed in the worst terror attacks on American soil.

Former President George W. Bush, who was in office on the day of the attacks, issued a written statement hailing bin Laden's death as a momentous achievement. ``The fight against terror goes on, but tonight America has sent an unmistakable message: No matter how long it takes, justice will be done,'' he said.

Nak-ed man slides down drain as cops raid brothel

Forget your clothes, sir? Na-ked man shins down drainpipe as police raid brothel
One moment he thought he was just an anonymous punter in a backstreet brothel.
The next he's in the n-ude hanging off a drainpipe after police burst into the brothel he was using in eastern China.
As the doors were smashed down the customer, leaving his clothes behind, ran on to the roof of the rundown apartment bloc in Changchun, Jilin province.

Bad n-udes: As the doors were smashed down in this backstreet brother, the na-ked customer ran on to the roof and started to climb down a drainpipe.

Once down on the street the man made good his escape. China has severe anti-prostitution laws and punishments

He then shinned down what appears to be a huge drainpipe and then ran off into the backstreets.
But he was not alone in making his escape. Moments after he appeared on the roof, two women - one just wrapped in a towel - could be seen running across the roof.
In the centre of the image another forlorn customer can be seen hiding behind a packing crate.
China has severe anti-prostitution laws and punishments including the death penalty for anyone guilty of human trafficking.

But he was not alone in making his escape. Moments after he appeared on the roof, two women - one just wrapped in a towel - could be seen running across the roof. And in the centre of the image another customer seems to be hiding behind a packing crate.

Muslim Playboy model gets death threats

Fanatics' fury at Muslim Playgirl

Sila Sahin

A MUSLIM actress has caused a storm by posing n_aked for Play-boy.
Sila Sahin has been branded a "whore" and a "western s-lut" after appearing top-less on the cover of the German edition of the men's magazine.

Sila Sahin
Soap beauty ... Sila Sahin
And Islamic fanatics have posted threatening internet messages.

Sila, raised in Germany by conservative Turkish parents, says she fears being "spat at" and "shamed".

Her parents are said to have reacted with "horror" at the 12-page coverage, and her mother has apparently cut off all contact.

Sila, 25 - star of German soap Good Times, Bad Times - claimed the shoot was a reaction to the "slavery" of her youth.

She added: "What I want to say with these photos is, 'Girls, we don't have to live according to the rules imposed upon us'.

"For years I subordinated myself to various societal constraints. The Play-boy photo shoot was a total act of liberation."

Threats

But Islamic internet sites are being monitored by the BND - the German intelligence agency - after threats were posted about her "shaming Muslim womanhood" and "prostituting herself for money".

One poster on the Jihad Watch website wrote: "She needs to be very careful..." Another simply said: "She must pay."

A kebab shop owner, asked on German TV what he would do if Sila were his daughter, replied: "I would kill her. I really mean that. That doesn't fit with my culture."

The Islamic Community of Germany has called for a boycott of Sila.

About three million Muslim immigrants live in Germany, which has seen numerous honour killings in recent years by fanatical husbands, fathers and brothers.

In 2009, an asylum seeker was sentenced to life after killing his "too independent" German wife.

One police intelligence officer said of Sila: "I think what she did was either very brave, or very stupid. She will be double-locking her door at night for a long time to come."

Spanish gym offers n-a-k-ed workouts

A STRUGGLING gym is hoping potential clients will fancy getting buff in the buff — after launching n-a-k-e-d workouts.
Liberal-minded customers have been invited to burn calories in the n-u-d-e at Easy Gym which provides towels to "prevent slippage" on equipment.

N-a-k-e-d workouts
Owner Merche Laseca said: "We knew we had to innovate because we were losing clients.

"Times are hard. There is a crisis. I need the money. I am not a n-u-d-i-s-t myself, but I don't mind it at all."

The business in the northern Spanish town of Arrigorriaga is the country's first gym to allow fitness fanatics to bare all.

Merche got the idea after a survey of n-u-d-i-s-t-s showed 90 per cent of them would happily exercise n-a-k-e-d.

Critics claimed the n-u-d-e gym sessions might be unhygienic and uncomfortable.

Julian Lopez, an Easy Gym member, said: "I think the managers are stupid to do this just to get money.

"They want me to be hygienic, with clean shoes, towels etc ... but when I go there now and sit on the exercise bike what am I going to find?"
